Planning for Summer Camp

I never knew summer camp planning for kids was such a big headache. All research we have to go through to keep Emery occupied while mommy and daddy go to work and make money to support.

Thankfully Emery helped me rank her preferences in order of most preferred 1 to least preferred 8. That’s the consultant in me.

So what does this tell us about Emery?

So long 2015!

2015 started out with a bang, we moved to Marietta shortly after the New Years after finding a place on Jan 1st last year. Ashley started workin again and I got into my MBA program. So unfortunate things also happened. We lost Cappy, our as I called him “Mr. Wappa”. He was a good boy but it was just his time. We also lost Ashley Po Po, who lived to 96, born in 1918. She was so dear to Ashley, almost like a second mother to Ashley.

Emery started kindergarten and has begun to read and do simple addition and subtraction. She is growing to be a caring, thoughtful and conscientious person with a really high EQ. She’s very bright and wants to work hard and be a good person.

2016 will be an interesting year. Ashley’s motto is a good clean start and mine is “just survive somehow”. I stole the line from “the walking dead” and Ashley thinks it very depressing. I sighed and told her it’s the true, the zombies are really taking over. In all seriousness 1016 is going to be a tough year. Work is going to be extremely busy with multiple projects all converging at UPS, running the BC department, and keeping up with B-School. I have a good start this past term on my MBA, 1 A and 2A-, with a DS (A) in Business Steategy.  Woot!!

Ashley is doing great at her job and her bosses like her a lot. She’s starting to do some interesting things are getting acclimated to the job. The commute is terrible but she’s been able to work 1 day a week from home. I hope things get better for her in 2016 and she can reduce her commute.

2016 will be a critical year. We both need to be more healthy and our lives are more busy the ever. Our goal is save enough to buy a nice home, settle down and grow roots.

Farewell 2015 and aloha 2016!

Christmas 2015 in ATLĀ

My parents and brother came down to ATL to spend Christmas with us. It’s great having them here and Emery is having so much fun with uncle, grandma and grandpa.

We did so many activities during  this trip it’s hard to list them all.

Mom and dad took Emery to Chattanooga. We ate about 15 different restaurants. We watched Star Wars , old and the new one that came out. We cooked lots of food, made bread using the bread machine. We open gifts, played lots of chess and saw a whole bunch of sites in Atlanta. Eugene even go Ashley and I to join in on two of his cross fit work outs. What a Christmas. I need a detox from all the holiday family craziness.

Executive MBA Starts

Yesterday, I officially started the Emory Executice MBA program. Fridayand Saturday 8-530pm was our first two days of orientation. There were 52 students in the class with an average age of 36 and 13 years of professional experience.

I was nervous at first but after meeting my class mates and seeing that everyone was just as anxious about how we could all pull this off with a demanding full time I job I felt kinship amongst my cohort.

I wrote down a few things I wanted to get out of the program

  1. To gain much broader perspective on how different  business models are run and managed
  2. To develop strong leadership and executive presence
  3. To determine a more clear next step in my career path making significant advancement
  4. Build a great network with leaders within and outside my industry
  5. Be able to use the skills I have learned to add value to my job on a daily basis

I also wrote that the reason I want this MBA program was to learn the tools and methods to apply them to become a CEO of a large company.

Here we go!

Our Kinder Kid

Emery finished her first week of Kindergarten this week and she loves it. The summer camp at Johnson ferry definitely trained her to adapt to new surroundings and the friends she made in camp also helped ease her into the Mt. Bethel school community.

Emery’s teachers are Ms. Allred and Ms Quintero. Ms Quintero was also one of Emery’s teacher at summer camp. So far Emery is doing great. She gets up early in the morning changes, brushes her teeth, makes her bed, combs her hair and comes downstairs. She has a shake with Ashley and we go out to the bus stop.   Emery likes the school bus. We call it a cheese bus. She seems more grown up this week.
