Emery is One!

Our wonderful Emery turned one today. It’s been amazing to watch her learn and grow out of the newborn and infant phase into a little babbling little person. Although she is only one, Emery has learned many things at this point. Emery can:
– crawl
– sit up and roll
– pull herself to a stand up
– stand without support while drinking a bottle or carrying objects
– stand while holding nearby support and walk or side shuffle
– feed herself small cereal, cake, pieces of fruit or bottle
– perform gestures on request (when she feels like entertaining): clap, wave, open and close palm to show bye bye, shake head and nod for no or yes, pat her chest when you ask her where is Emery or Monkey, hold her hand to ear when you say hello? and telephone, put up one index finger when you ask her how old she is.
– Emery is also starting to babble more and make a combo of noises with gestures. She is getting good at doing the index finger point and making a single not sound

Emery’s motor development is fascinating but her personality development is equally interesting. Ashley and I as well as all people that meet her have these common observations:
– Emery is really easy going, she adapts to her surrounding and does not fuss as over new experiences or new environments. She is good on the plane, with crowds and moving from place to place and sleeping and playing in different homes.
– Emery is not shy and lets anyone carry her and does not shrug away from people. She tends to stare at them.
– Emery is serious. She does not smile at strangers often and will warm up if she knows you but her defacto facial expression is more serious and all business
– Emery is persistent. When she wants to get something, do something, Emery will not give up. When trying to stand up, Emery did it over and over again one night until she got it. When she wants to crawl somewhere she will not be stopped whatever obstacle is in her way. She will grab objects and even if I swat her hand 10 times she will continue to grab. She does eventually get frustrated but soon goes after the object again.

Here are some pics of Emery during her birthday bash weekend and days around it.

Charleston, S.C.

I am sitting on a enclosed patio deck in a rocking chair sipping my favorite iced coffee, listening to music. Ash is curled up in a lawn chair next to me reading a gossip magazine and Nai Nai is to my other side playing with Emery. Yup we are on vacation!

We are in a beach home in Charleston, South Carolina this week and loving the relaxation. We traveled together with the Lo’s. They have a little daughter as well Eva, so Emery had another small person in company. We’ve been taking in sights, sounds and tastes of the south in our vacation getaway.

Charleston has a lot of rich history and we got to visit and old southern plantation call Boone Hall. It dated back to 1600s and had over 300 slaves at one point producing cotton, indigo, rice and bricks. It was raining the day we were there but still gorgeous and just like the one in Gone With the Wind.

We also had some great food while here. Did not know it is one of the great culinary cities in America. We ate southern cuisine many of which were local southern ingredients from the produce to the the seafood. Ash, being a seafood had a blast with tuna and shrimp everyday!

Best of all the vacation home rental at Folly Beach was awesome. We spent a lot of time just lounging at the house both inside and out. Here are some more photos from our trip.

Emery and Nai Nai

Last night a long awaited event took place. Emery and her Great Grandmother (whom Ashley and I call Nai Nai) safely arrived in Atlanta! Nai Nai was so excited and happy to see Emery and Emery felt the same way. The two hit it off immediately. Nai Nai is going to stay 2 months with us here in Atlanta and bond with her great grand daughter! Emery is so lucky.

Get Back To Blogging

It’s been way too long since I have blogged and so many things have happened. Our blog itself has sort of been in suspended animation for awhile. My to dos will be:

1. Update posts about Emery
2. Add Emery to our family page
3. Time to update the top masthead
4. Need to switch out the right module
5. Post some Emery videos and photos and a special emery page.

I’ll get started on these soon. But for now it’s time for bed.

Xmas in Atlanta

This Christmas we had quite a number of guests over. Ashley two sisters along with their family came over. So our little one bedroom was a buzz with activity. There were 6 adults, Ash, me, Audrey, Tomo, Ziggy and Tomo. There were three kids, Emery, Megan, and Dylan. And last but no least our two dogs.

We did our usual Christmas tradition and opened up gifts by the tree Christmas morning. Megan facilitated the presents distribution calling out who was suppose to open a gift next. With so many people around, there was so many gifts under the tree. It was a wonderful time and Emery got to enjoy her first Christmas with our extended family. Here’s some pictures from that morning.

Here’s Tomo buried alive under the left over gift wrap…
