Parents visiting Atlanta for my graduation

My parents and oldest sister came to Atlanta in December to attend my graduation from Georgia Tech.  That year and half just flew by and it felt like yesterday when Ray and I had that discussion back in early 2007 whether I should go back to school and get my master’s degree. And now, it’s all over.  Thanks to Ray and his support, I was able to fulfill this accomplishment.  Honestly, as excited as I was, I was also reluctant and scared to make a career change…. well… somewhat of a change.  But everything worked out smoothly, from moving from Alameda to Atlanta, to Ray’s seamless transfer to the Atlanta office.  Thank goodness. I’m so grateful for all that has happened.  Again, as usual, everything happened in a whirlwind but somehow it just worked out.

It was great having them visit Atlanta and be there for my graduation. After the ceremony, we went to Two Urban Licks, a cool joint with great ambiance not too far from where we live in Midtown.  The food was yummy and I could tell my parents enjoyed trying something new.  Look at my dad… he loved the food! Food coma….

As part of the visit, my dad, being the handyman that he is, did some fix ups around our condo.  I’m so grateful.  Thanks to him, people don’t trip when they walk into our apartment anymore… near the entrance, there used to be a nail sticking out of a piece of wood.  My dad worked his magic and everything is now intact correctly. Whew! Meanwhile… my mom cooked up a storm.  How great is that!

Finally, my parents’ birthdays are in December (well… sometimes they go by the Lunar Calendar, but it’s too confusing).  Rarely do I have the opportunity to celebrate with them. Fortunately, their trip to Atlanta made it possible.  Ray and I bought them cupcakes from this amazingggggg place at Tech Square.  This shop has possibly the best cupcakes ever.

Yippieeee!!! Home to Hawaii Again…

I have absolutely nothing to complain about being a student again. I never thought I’d have another Spring Break again after undergrad. But thank goodness… my dream came true… Spring Break 2008!! 🙂 Going back to Hawaii to see my grandma, parents and friends was such a treat. It was a lot of fun and I loaded up on papaya and pok’e. That was pretty much my staple throughout the stay. Everytime I go home, I try to take my grandma somewhere she hasn’t been to before to try new food. This time, it was Kakaako Kitchen, near Ward Center and Ala Moana. I think she liked it since it was her type of food, fried, fried, and more fried. 🙂 It’s amazing that she’s in good health after all the fried food she’s digested over the years. I’m thankful for that. Aside from her foot problem, she’s in great shape, especially for a lady who is going to turn 90 this year! 🙂 I also spent some time with my parents which was cool and of course, hung out with Cathy. She is my going-out-partying buddy everytime I go home. I also saw some friends who I’ve lost touch with over the years and hung out with them too. It was really nice. It’s always good to be home. I really do miss Hawaii and hope to go back there and live there someday.

On my way back to Atlanta, I stopped by L.A. for a day and a half and stayed with my sister’s family. We took my niece Meagan and nephew, Dylan to Disneyland!!!! My niece, of course, loveeeddd it. She was smiles ear to ear all day there and was filled with energy.

It’s tough keeping up with her! I had a great time there and was so happy to see them. We rode most of the rides at Disneyland and the lines weren’t so bad. Too bad the ride “Small World” was closed due to renovation until later this year. That’s my favorite ride since childhood. Meagan loved all the rides and Dylan was busy looking at girls. Haha, just kidding. He does like to charm the ladies, though. 🙂 He’s a great baby. He’s not fussy or hard to deal with at all. He’s usually a pretty happy baby overall. I can’t wait to see them again!

Ray’s 27th Birthday… Finally a Hit!!!!

At 12 a.m. of October 15, I wished Ray a Happy 27th birthday. He was too tired and nearly unresponsive since it was a Sunday evening and he knew that he had a long week ahead. But it’s okay, I knew I had to wake up pretty early myself so that I can make him a nice birthday breakfast. By the time he awoke at 7 a.m. I had his breakfast with juice laid out for him. It comprised of an egg, a half bagel, kielbasa sausage and some home-made fries. Ray used to tell me how his parents used to make home-made fries on Sunday mornings when he was growing up and he reminisced about those days. So I thought I could make him something that will bring back some good memories. With the breakfast, I also gave him two cards, one from me and the other from our loving doogies, Pok’e and Cappy. Of course, they whispered to me what they wanted me to write and I simply put their thoughts onto one of the cards. 🙂 It was their idea…. really. Ray was very happy that morning and it was a good start to his 27th birthday.

Oh, and I got him some bar soaps as a gag gift. He didn’t like the liquid bath soap that we’ve been using and just raved about how much better bar soap was. So I thought it’d be funny to wrap up a couple of bar soaps I picked up at CVS. He thought that was all that he was getting for his birthday…. hehe. We were both very busy that day, with his long day at work and my two upcoming midterms.

However, after I got home at 9 p.m. that evening, I surprised him with a mini strawberry shortcake that I picked up earlier that afternoon from Whole Foods. It was a good size, enough for two people and not too much leftovers. And then Ray thought THAT was the end of his birthday. Although I told him that I have a gift for him later on in the week, I think he didn’t believe me.

So… today (Saturday, October 20), after we picked up some breakfast, we were off to a special place. Ray hates surprises but I thought this one was a sure bet and that he’ll definitely like his “gift”. We finally pulled up to an appliance store 20 minutes away from our place and when we walked in, he still had no idea why I brought him there. He thought that I was going to take him go-carting today (although, that’s a great idea and I’ll do that for him another time). So when we finally walked over to the video game section, I think he finally put two and two together… yeap… after the numerous conversations of how much fun XBox 360 would be, he’s finally getting one. Actually, I planned to get him this for his birthday two years ago. I remember doing all the research and everything I needed to know, except one thing…. the release date. Somehow I thought it was already out and when I took him to Best Buy, he looked confused. He didn’t know what I was buying him and when I revealed his surprise, he gave me an even bigger one… “It’s not even out yet honey.” ????? What????? I was such a moron! I went on to the Target and Best Buy websites and everywhere described and raved about this new console. Little did I realize it was the hype and advertisement before the release….. Hmm… No wonder it didn’t have prices. Anyways, this bothered me for a long time because what I thought was going to be a nice big birthday surprise for him turned out to be a big disappointment.

But today, it finally happened… we got it!!!!! Yippieee!!! And he got Halo 3, one of the biggest game release in video game history! I remember he and Eugene talking about the game several months ago and it was finally released about a month back. I’m not a gamer and I don’t think Ray is by any stretch compared to some real addicts out there that stays up 24 or 48 hours at a time to play. But even I heard all about the rave and rift-raft about this game and it sounds exciting. Well, Ray had a huge smile on his face as we walked out of the store and seeing him look like a kid at a candy store made me happy. I feel good that I finally bought him a gift that was exactly what he wanted. Getting Ray gifts were at times difficult, just hits or misses, and over the years, I must admit, there was a handfull of “misses”. I felt so bad when he didn’t seem to really like the gifts I got him and I kept wishing that I got him something he would die for. This XBox 360 is so far one of his favorite gifts. 🙂 This would make life easier for me too, since I can just buy him video games for gifts for upcoming special occasions and let him build a little collection of games.

He’s setting it up right now as I’m typing this and he has this little kid smile on his face. Very cute and funny. He’s only entering letters in the system so far and hasn’t even started the game, but already looks so amused.

I want to wish him a very Happy 27th Birthday. Many people consider this age a milestone. Well, at least many girls I know do. And for my husband, it’s also a milestone. His first game console gift. He seems pretty happy about that so I consider this a successful birthday gift. 🙂

Ray’s hard work

Ray has been so dedicated to making this blog. He is really excited that we’ll be able to store and share all of our memories online. I just want to give him credit for working so hard and taking a lot of pride in this. This is a great way to share our events with our friends who we are not physically located near and also hear about their latest and greatest news.

I am so lucky to have a husband who is so passionate about this blog because when we get older (like 50 years from now) and have problems remembering things, this blog will definitely come into use and help us relive all these fun and beautiful moments. Again, thank you HUNEY!!!!! Good job!!!!

Love,

Munk

Merry Christamas! hahaha!

It’s not that I don’t know how to spell Christmas, but this was exactly how the people at “Hokkaido”, the restaurant we had dinner at last night, spelled it! It was posted up with this typo all over the restaurant! And let me tell you, that restaurant was huggggggggeeeeeeeee! Can you imagine the typo all over the place? hahaha. I thought it was funny.

Anyways, today is Christmas and it’s the second one that my huney and I are spending here in Alameda. Although there’s no bells and whistles here at our apartment today, I am still extremely happy that huney and I got to spend it together. We had a pretty casual day, yet, it was fun! Before dinner, we went to Thompson Lane, a street here in Alameda that is full of christmas lights! None of the houses was extremely impressive, but it was very festive as a street, collectively. Many people stroll through it as if it was a tourist site. In fact, here in Alameda, besides the annual Peanut Butter festival in September, this street is definitely an Alameda highlight.

I am so happy to be here with Huney tonight. We watched the rest of season one for “Lost,” and it was such a tease to have it end the way it did! As I am writing, huney is downloading season 2 and I can’t wait to watch more! Huney is so good about keeping us entertained in this home. He is named the Director of Media for the Kit Family. hehehe. Let me tell you that he definitely earned that name and is doing a greatttttttt job! And see this blog that I am writing in? Guess who created this whole thing? yeap. Bewa Peng. Isn’t he awesome or what? He is the most wonderful and bestest Bewa eva!

I can’t wait to make another entry in this blog! I want to contribute more into this Kit Family blog so that someday, the people we care about can read our thoughts. Merry Christmas 2006 everyone!!!! 🙂
