Emery’s 5th Birthday Bash

The invite is out for Emery’s 5th Birthday party bash.  We are inviting all her Pre-School friends and other “long time” (relatively speaking) buddies.  There is much to do in preparation but it should be a great time.  We’ve also got a really great birthday gift for Emery to come.  (a new big girl bike with training wheels!)

Here’s the invite Ash made with cute-face herself making the banner complete. 🙂

Emery Party

The birthday party was a success. 22 of her closest friends from school, Amelia and Lucas all came. They made alien green pizzas and monster jello. We bought a rainbow cake complete with littlest pet shop figures ontop. We also catered food for the parents who attended. They kids all had a blast, here’s some pictures from the party.

Emery is 5

Today is a big milestone for Emery. She is now a big kid. She speaks very well, has a very dramatic personality and loves dresses and cute things. When we told her today that she is a big kid, Emery didn’t want to be a big kid. She said she still wanted to be a baby. We asked her why she wanted to be a baby and she said:

I don’t want you to get old mommy, I want you to always be with me

Lately, Emery has actually been more attached to us. I think as she realizes she is getting means being more independent and she wants the security of her parents around.  Emery is such a sweet child. She is so goofy and is always trying to make is laugh.

As part of being a big girl, we got Emery a two wheel bike with training wheels. She wanted a Frozen bike but we decided not to over frozen everything a got her a 16″ power princess bike with a basket in front and a little seat in the rear to carry her stuff animal friend. We asked her if she like the pick and she said it was “almost perfect”.  This girl knows what she wants.

Hearty Soup

For Valentine’s Day I cooked Ashley’s favorite, a tomato based seafood stew. The Italians call it Cioppino and there is a French version bouillabaisse.

I bought little neck clams, large shrimp, tilapia and bay scallops and cooked it in this stew. I found the recipe on Big Oven. She loved it. I made so much we have a few meals out of it. Emery liked it too. It was not oily or creamy and tasted really brothy and fresh.

Here’s To Us

Ashley and I have been dating for 15 years!  It’s amazing how much time has past.  We like to celebrate this special day because it really was a very special milestone for us where we formally decided at that time to be girlfriend-boyfriend.

We went out to dinner to Osteria Matonne, an italian restaurant near our house.  Since Emery has not been very receptive to baby sitters, we brought Emery with us and we all had a great time.  🙂

Ashley’s Birthday

Even though it was a bit early, with my weekly travel schedule out to Texas we decided to celebrate Ashley’s birthday one day early.

I decorated the backyard and we bought Ashley’s favorite things to eat, seafood. There were big scallops and jumbo prawns. So that I didn’t mess up good food, Ashley cooked them while Emery and I decorated the patio. We brought the stereo outside as well and dined into the evening. We ended a great meal outdoors with a small strawberry cake, another one of Ashley’s favorite things. Here som pics from the evening.
